I'm at Cabrillo College and planning to transfer to UC Santa Cruz for marine biology. A student review said: “Cabrillo has a strong transfer agreement with UCSC. Many of my friends transferred smoothly.” Another said: “Work with your advisor early. Don't assume every class will transfer.” I'm nervous about losing credits. For those who transferred from Cabrillo, what was your experience?

The transfer agreement is solid but you have to follow it exactly. My mistake: I took a class that ASSIST said transferred as "elective credit" but I thought it would count for a major requirement. It didn't. I had to take an extra class at UCSC.
So pay attention to what the credit counts as, not just whether it transfers. An elective is fine, but if you need it for a requirement, make sure it's the right course number on the UCSC side.
The Cabrillo transfer center has workshops. Go to them. They walk you through the application and the credit process.
