How do Cabrillo College credits transfer to UC Santa Cruz?

The transfer agreement is solid but you have to follow it exactly. My mistake: I took a class that ASSIST said transferred as "elective credit" but I thought it would count for a major requirement. It didn't. I had to take an extra class at UCSC. So pay attention to what the credit counts as...

What is the UCUES survey and why should I take it? Prizes maybe? 🎁

I took it last cycle. Got a $40 gift card. Worth it for that alone. But also, my department actually changed some things based on the results. They added more evening office hours because students said they couldn't attend during the day. So yeah, they use it.

What's the commute like if I live off-campus at SDSU?

I live in Mission Valley and take the trolley. It's about 15 minutes. The trolley runs often enough that I don't stress about missing it. I'd definitely recommend living near a trolley station if you can. The cost savings on parking alone make it worth it.

Tuition in California is going up AGAIN. How am I supposed to afford this?

I'm a community college student and I want to say: we're struggling too. The enrollment fee is $1,380 which is manageable but then there's parking ($180/semester), books ($500/semester), and the campus fees that keep creeping up. I'm working two jobs and still can't afford to transfer because...

What scholarships are available for transfer students in California? 🎓

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. It's competitive but it's huge. I didn't get it but a friend did and they covered her entire transfer—tuition, books, living expenses. Definitely worth the application time.

What are the academic benefits of living on campus for 2 years?

I'll be honest—I didn't want to live on campus for two years. I thought it was a money grab. But now that I'm in my second year I actually get it. The library is open late and I can walk there in pajamas. I have a study group in my dorm that meets three times a week and we hold each other...

Why I actually like the Virtual Advising Center better than in-person meetings

I know some people hate the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) because it feels impersonal, but honestly? I love it. Here's why. First, "questions submitted to Sixth College are answered by an advisor within 48 business hours" . That's faster than trying to schedule an in-person appointment during...

How do I submit academic forms or petitions to Sixth College?

I need to submit some academic forms and the website says to email them to sixthadvising@ucsd.edu if "an alternative method has not been provided to you" . Forms and petitions should be "completed and signed by all required parties prior to submission to Sixth" . Appropriate forms to submit via...

What's the difference between drop-in advising and scheduled appointments at UCSD?

Sixth College offers two ways to meet with advisors: drop-in sessions and scheduled appointments. For "drop-in advising" , you can meet via Zoom for *"15-minute advising sessions"* during posted hours . You need to "sign in at least 15 minutes before the end of the advising period" . During...

How do I contact a Sixth College advisor at UCSD?

I need to talk to an advisor about my schedule but I'm not sure how to reach them. The Sixth College website says the "Virtual Advising Center (VAC) at vac.ucsd.edu is the best way to connect with Advising" . You can submit questions through the "Ask a Question" tab and an advisor responds...
