When I'm not diving headfirst into my latest research or grading papers, I've been quietly working on little passion project of mine. It's historical novel, inspired by some of the fascinating events and characters I've studied throughout my career. I've got my first draft finished (finally), and after getting some positive feedback from close friends and colleagues, I'm thinking about self-publishing. But wow, it's like standing at the base of Mount Whitney, staring up at that towering peak and wondering how in the world you're going to climb to the top! Has anyone else on here gone through this process before? Are there any specific publishing platforms you'd recommend for an absolute newbie? Also, hear getting an editor is pretty crucial. Anyone got suggestions for that? Local options here in California would be great so we could meet in person, but I'm open to online as well. And what about marketing? From what gather, it seems like that's mostly on me as self-published author. Any advice or resources you found helpful for navigating that maze? Phew! That's lot of questions. While you chew on those, Just kidding. Unless.?
